Full Day Itinerary (London to Windsor and return)

Be at London Victoria station for 0845 and make your way over to platform 2 where your train will be waiting. Settle into your seats and look through your souvenir booklet containing a free map of Windsor as our train chuffs out of the station at approximately 0900.

If you have chosen to travel in Pullman Style Dining, you will be welcomed on board with a chilled glass of Champagne before being served a delicious Eggs Royale brunch. Those of you travelling in First Class or Standard Class are welcome to bring your own picnic on board or you can order drinks and snacks from our friendly on-board team.

We’ll pass many of London famous landmarks including Chelsea Bridge, The Royal Hospital and Battersea Power Station. As we head towards the leafy suburbs, we will cross the Thames at least once, and pass reservoirs and lakes prior to our arrival at Windsor & Eton Riverside Station. Once you have disembarked at Windsor and Eton Riverside and taken some photos with the fabulous steam locomotive ‘Mayflower’ you can explore Windsor at your own pace.

You can head up to the High Street to witness the Guards marching through the town to the castle for the Changing of the Guard. The Guards march from Victoria Barracks on Sheet Street, up the High Street and into Windsor Castle. The best places to see them are on Windsor High Street or on the Corn Exchange under Windsor Guildhall between 1045 and 1100 (please note: the schedule is set by the British Army and is subject to change).

If the weather is kind, a stroll along the ‘long walk’ with panoramic views of the Queen’s country retreat, is highly recommended. If you fancy sampling another type of steam-powered transport, there is the option of an hour-long steam cruise along the Thames about steamboat ‘Streatley’, offering wonderful views of Windsor Castle from the River. A perfect feast for the budding steam enthusiast. Alternatively, take a tour covering road and river with the Windsor Duck Tours.

You can explore the rest of Windsor and Eton with the Tootbus open top bus tour. The tour takes around 45 minutes but as the tour is hop on, hop off you can get off the bus if you spot something you fancy at one of the 11 stops on the way. You also have the option of a guided walk or a horse-drawn carriage ride. There are so many ways to explore Windsor, there really is something for everyone!

By now, it’s nearly lunchtime. There are many restaurants or pubs in Windsor to choose from with different types of cuisine so there’s lots on the menu. For those with a sweet tooth, you may prefer to forgo a full lunch and enjoy a chocolate making workshop instead with Dr Chocs.

In the afternoon, you can decide to explore more of Windsor, perhaps enjoying a delicious afternoon tea and maybe a spot of shopping in Windsor town centre, or catch the return service from Windsor & Eton Riverside station at 1415. Relax in allocated seating in our Standard Class carriage, returning directly to London Victoria at 1520, giving you the rest of the afternoon to enjoy in the Capital. Many of London’s top attractions are easily accessible from here, including Buckingham Palace and St James’s Park.
